I'm Gilles Danneels, a developer from Roeselare, focused on building practical and effective solutions.

I didn’t start programming until after I finished studying woodworking. I always knew I wanted to create, but I eventually realized it wouldn’t be with wood. That’s when I decided to dive into applied computer science, majoring in application development. Ever since that moment, I’ve loved every minute of it.

The journey wasn’t without its challenges. From the start of my studies, it was clear there was a lot to learn, but I was so fascinated by how everything worked that I pushed myself to absorb as much as possible. Looking back, I’m incredibly glad I did.

Today, my job involves tackling complex and engaging projects, but I also enjoy creating personal projects for myself and others. For example, both my dad and brother are wine enthusiasts with their own small collections. To help them out, I developed an app that allows them to scan the barcodes of their bottles and manage their virtual cellars, keeping track of which bottles are still in stock and which have been enjoyed.

In my free time, I’m also maintaining a project I began as a student—a tool that automates meal counting for a hospital. I love staying involved with new projects, as they give me the chance to explore new technologies and learn something new with each challenge.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of technologies, each contributing to my growth as a developer. From the early days of learning the basics to now tackling complex projects, these tools have been essential in bringing my ideas to life and overcoming challenges along the way.
